New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has shown his support for the Knicks in many creative ways. On Monday, Mamdani was at it again, this time inviting the youth of the city to tune in to the Knicks-Spurs Finals series.

In a clip posted on X, the Mayor is seen signing an “Executive Order” that temporarily repeals the bedtime of children in the Big Apple. Mamdani explained that he came up with this “measure” in order to give kids the chance to watch the Knicks go for championship glory.

Mamdani added that issuing this “order” was not a difficult decision at all, as he is all in on rousing support for the hometown team.

The excitement in New York City is palpable, and for good reason. The Knicks haven’t been to the Finals since 1999, and the last time they won the NBA title was way back in 1973.

In between those milestones, the Knicks had their fair share of lowlights, even becoming cellar-dwellers that their own fans were ashamed of. This decade, however, has seen the team return to powerhouse status, with head coach Mike Brown looking to cap off a foundation laid by ex-Knicks mentor Tom Thibodeau.

The arrival of Jalen Brunson via free agency was a game-changer, and the addition of Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, Mikal Bridges, and OG Anunoby gave him a well-balanced supporting cast. Now, this new era of Knicks basketball will face its biggest test yet as the Victor Wembanyama-led Spurs stand in their way.

“I Apologize for That One”: Draymond Green Expresses Regret Over Grim Prediction of Knicks’ Future

Sometime last year, four-time NBA champion Draymond Green shared his belief that the Knicks will be going through “15 years of misery.” Seeing Brunson and his crew reach the NBA Finals this season, Green went on his podcast to do an about-face on his grim prediction.

“The reality is, y’all fired your coach and you brought in a coach that won a championship with us…And y’all went and got more players like Mikal Bridges and Karl-Anthony Towns, so yeah, so I’d apologize for that one.”

Based on their energy on the court and inside their locker room, the Knicks look to be in a good position to contend for years to come. The only question is whether they’ll get to conquer the mountaintop, something that Green’s Warriors have done four times over.
