Lions set new franchise scoring record through the first five weeks

With their 37-point outburst in the Week 5 win over the Cincinnati Bengals, the Detroit Lions established a new franchise record. The 2025 Lions have scored more points than any other team through the first five games in Detroit's football history.

The Lions have scored 174 points in the first five weeks. That's the most any Lions team has posted in the opening five games of a season. Detroit still leads the entire NFL in scoring through Week 5, pending the outcome of Monday night's game between the Chiefs and Jaguars. The 22 touchdowns in five games are also a franchise high-water mark.

The offense hasn't skipped a beat with new coordinator John Morton calling the plays. The doomsayer predictions that the Lions offense would fall apart with former coordinator Ben Johnson leaving for the Chicago Bears have proven laughably ridiculous. Meanwhile, Jared Goff is quietly building a case for MVP, while the RB duo of David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs has matched the NFL record for the most games where each has scored a touchdown in the same game.
