VOTE for the El Paso Children's Hospital Athlete of the Week, Sept. 7-12
Every week, the Las Cruces Sun-News will nominate several athletes for its Athlete of the Week award, sponsored by the El Paso Children's Hospital. The winner is decided by you, the readers.
Last week's winner was Las Cruces High School football's Denton Walter with 2,534 votes (98% of votes).
The award highlights the best performances from Las Cruces-area athletes from the previous week. This week, there are seven nominations from football, girls volleyball, and cross country from Las Cruces, Centennial and Organ Mountain high schools.
The poll will close at noon on Friday, Sept. 18. There are no restrictions, so vote now and vote often.
- Las Cruces High School girls volleyball's Jarah Hawkins recorded 11 kills and one block during the Bulldawgs' lone game last week. Las Cruces swept Hobbs, 25-18, 25-8, 25-16.
- Centennial High School girls volleyball's Cynthia Riggs recorded 12 kills and one ace in the Hawks' 3-0 sweep over Silver Valley on Sept. 8.
- Organ Mountain High School football's Jaydon Kraft led the Knights against Eldorado on Friday night, recording one touchdown.
- Centennial High School football's Ruiz Laborin recorded three touchdowns on Friday night against Carlsbad. The Hawks downed the Cavemen, 35-7.
- Organ Mountain High School cross country's Noah Dominguez came in 13th place during the Cathdral/Loretto XC Invitational with a time of 17:50.
- Centennial High School cross country's Isabella Carpio finished in sixth place during the Cathdral/Loretto XC Invitational with a time of 21:01.
- Las Cruces High School boys soccer's Rodrigo Martinez scored two goals last week during the Bulldawgs' match against Deming.
