49ers injury update: San Francisco had five sidelined players return to practice on Monday
Training camp and the preseason have come and gone, and now the San Francisco 49ers are preparing for their regular-season opener against the Seattle Seahawks at Lumen Field on Sunday.
Ahead of the matchup, the 49ers held their first practice of the week on Monday morning at their SAP Performance Facility, and they got some good news with guard Dominick Puni (knee), wide receiver Jauan Jennings (calf), defensive lineman Kalia Davis, EDGE Yetur Gross-Matos (knee) and wide receiver Russell Gage (knee) returning to the field.
All five had missed time during training camp and/or the preseason, and with them all back, they could be in much better shape against the Seahawks if they’re all good to play.
According to ESPN’s Nick Wagoner, the only 49er that wasn’t seen in uniform at practice was rookie wide receiver Jordan Watkins, who has been dealing with an ankle injury since the team’s preseason opener against the Denver Broncos.
With less talent on their roster than in previous seasons, the 49ers need all the help that they can get, so while it would be great to have Watkins back for Week 1, San Francisco appears to be in a better position to compete early in the season than they were earlier this morning.
