South Carolina football WRs Jayden Sellers, Jayden Gibson out for season with injuries

South Carolina football wide receivers Jayden Sellers and Jayden Gibson will miss the 2026 season with injuries, the program announced Aug. 16.

Sellers is the younger brother of star South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers.

Gibson, 6-foot-5, is in his first season with the Gamecocks after transferring this past January from Oklahoma but injuries have kept him off the field the majority of his career so far.

“I am extremely disappointed for both of these young men,” South Carolina coach Shane Beamer said in a statement. “I know how hard each of them has worked over the spring and summer in getting ready for 2026 to help our team. I have full confidence they will both overcome the adversity they’re facing, and we will help them in whatever way we can throughout the rehab process moving forward.”

Jayden Sellers, Jayden Gibson stats

Sellers played in seven games as a freshman last season. He had 22 catches for 337 yards and one touchdown.

After playing in one game in 2022, Gibson recorded 14 catches for 375 yards and scored five touchdowns, averaging 26.8 yards per catch in 2023 at Oklahoma.

During the summer gearing up for the 2024 season, he injured his patellar tendon, which kept him out the entire season. He was expected to return for 2025 but a setback in his recovery kept him off the field for the start of the year. He redshirted but in mid-October coach Brent Venables said he was no longer with the Sooners.

Gibson committed to South Carolina two days after the portal opened on Jan. 4, marking the first get for Beamer that cycle.

How Jayden Gibson, Jayden Sellers injuries impact South Carolina offense

The depth at wide receiver means South Carolina isn't in panic mode at the moment.

Sellers was expected to have a larger role this season, but Gibson wasn't projected top of the depth chart.

The 6-foot-5 speedy Nyck Harbor is returning after leading the team in receiving yards (618) and touchdowns (six) last year. Mazeo Bennett is in a position to have a much better junior year, closer to 2024 (337 receiving yards). Other options include Donovan Murph and Sequel Patterson.

Beamer also brought in transfer wide receivers Nitro Tuggle from Purdue and DJ Black from UCF. Tuggle logged 500 receiving yards and four touchdowns in 2025, Black had 273 with two scores.

South Carolina's first scrimmage on Aug. 15 was closed to media and during the portions of media open to practice there hasn't been any live action that previews the depth chart and rotation.
