Harry Kane closes in on Cristiano Ronaldo’s legendary UEFA Champions League scoring record

After two goals in the shocking draw against Viking FK, Harry Kane is potentially three games away from breaking one of Cristiano Ronaldo’s Champions League records.
Cristiano Ronaldo’s elite legacy in the UEFA Champions league forms the bulwark of his GOAT candidacy. He holds multiple records in the competition, but no record is infallible. Harry Kane is closing in on one of them at this very moment.
Kane played a huge role in a surprising result for Bayern Munich on Tuesday night. After the team went down 2-0 early against Norwegian club Viking FK, Kane scored twice to bring them back into it. The game eventually ended in a 3-3 draw. The Englishman’s goals were also crucial in a different way.
Harry Kane could tie Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for most consecutive CL goals in two more games
The England captain matched the competition’s second-longest goalscoring streak with his two goals, joining Robert Lewandowski and Ruud van Nistelrooy, who also scored in nine straight matches.
Cristiano Ronaldo remains the only player ahead of Kane, having scored in 11 consecutive Champions League games for Real Madrid in 2017-18, when he netted 17 goals during the run. Kane may not score as many during his run, but he doesn’t need more than three to break the overall record.
Bayern’s next three games in the competition will come against Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, and French club LOSC. Both Arsenal and Atleti are known for being defensively robust, so it will be quite the challenge for Kane to break the record.
If he can manage it, though, it would propel the Englishman even further in terms of his long-term legacy in the sport. Kane has proven time and again that he is one of the world’s best strikers, and now he’s on his way to getting the accolades to back that claim up.
