UFC 332 results: Roman Kopylov upsets Ateba Gautier with massive first-round knockout

Ateba Gautier finally met his match in the UFC’s middleweight division.

The Cameroonian prospect’s undefeated Octagon run crashed into the brick wall that was Roman Kopylov on Saturday night at UFC 322. In a masterful upset performance, Kopylov danced out of range of Gautier’s power, repeatedly tagged him with counters on the feet, then knocked Gautier out with a slick combination midway through the opening round inside the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.

The ending sequence was a thing of beauty, as Kopylov forced Gautier to overextend himself, then staggered him with straight left, downed him with a follow-up one-two, and poured on ground-and-pound for the win as more than a 2-to-1 underdog.

Gautier (11-2) was a perfect 5-0 in the UFC coming into the night and was widely considered one of the top up-and-coming talents at 185 pounds.

“Honestly, I think I’m dreaming,” an elated Kopylov said post-fight through a translator.

“I was up against a young guy, a killer, the guy that finishes everybody by knockout. This is why I can’t believe this is real.”

With the win, Kopylov (16-5) moved to 8-5 in his up-and-down UFC run. He’s now scored back-to-back wins in 2026 after suffering a two-fight skid at the hands of veteran contenders Paulo Costa and Gregory Rodrigues.

Notably, Kopylov’s performance extended a streak of seven consecutive first-round knockouts across UFC 332’s fight card — a UFC record.
