Still injured, Jett Lawrence sweeps Thunder Valley 450 motos for overall win, takes Motocross red plate
LAKEWOOD, Colorado: Haiden Deegan rode to an easy victory in the Moto 2 at Thunder Valley Motocross Park to sweep the races and win the overall for the second consecutive week.
Jett withstood massive pressure in the first moto, which kept him from assuming his accustomed pace. When Jett is left to his own devices, he scoots out to a lead and then manages it.
Jett finished more than six seconds ahead of Lucas Coenen in the second moto. For the Belgium rider making his debut in the series, he had remarkable pace in the premier 450 class. Coenen was the beneficiary of crashes for Haiden Deegan and Hunter Lawrence in the first moto, but needed no help in Moto 2.
Lawrence finished third overall, but he faced challenges in both races. Hunter crossed the finish line third in the first race, but was docked one position for cutting the course. He crashed on the first lap of the second moto and had to come through the field.
Hunter made an aggressive pass on Deegan as time was running off the clock. The two made contact when Hunter dove to the inside line, but on the next lap, Hunter crashed a second time and handed the position back to Deegan.
Three costly mistakes cost Hunter the red plate, handing it to the still-injured Jett.
Deegan got a modest start in the second moto, and after being penalized seven positions to 11th in Moto 1, he was barely inside the top five on the first lap. He worked his way forward and finished third in the second race.
